Precision for your component

Precision turned parts from wire

We use ESCOmatic technology to manufacture small shafts, pins and cylindrical rollers from round wire. Selecting the right starting material can save additional machining operations.

Which parts are suitable for wire turning?

Our wire turning capabilities are suitable for cylindrical parts and turned features on the outer surface, such as stepped diameters, grooves or knurling. We machine round wire Ø 0.1–6 mm.

Typical components include precision pins, small shafts and cylindrical rollers. We assess the specific geometry based on your drawing.

How round wire becomes a component

Round wire is fed from a coil and straightened by a rotating wire straightener. The rotating tool head machines the outer surface of the advancing wire. The component is then parted off to the required length.

We use ESCO D2 CNC, cam-controlled D2 machines and NM6 FLEXI. Geometry and quantity determine which machine we select for your component.

Wire with tight tolerances can eliminate grinding

For suitable components, we source round wire with tight diameter tolerances, down to tolerance zone h5 to ISO 286 where the required combination of material and diameter is available. This specifies the permissible deviations of the outside diameter; the limit sizes depend on the nominal diameter.

If the outside diameter is retained during machining, the diameter accuracy of the wire can meet the required outside diameter tolerance of the finished part. We assess whether grinding can be omitted based on dimensional, form and surface requirements, as well as heat treatment and subsequent operations. We agree tolerances for newly turned surfaces separately.

Source the right materials

We machine steels and non-ferrous metals and work exclusively with ISO 9001-certified suppliers for material sourcing. Our network of experienced European material manufacturers helps us select suitable grades and dimensions. We assess special alloys and heats in consultation with you.

Steels currently processed by Brückner include 100Cr6, 17Cr3, 16MnCr5, 19MnB4, 18CrNiMo7-6, 15CrNi6, C45, 11SMn30 and 46S20. For each project, we check which grade can be sourced as round wire in the required size and with the required starting accuracy.

Cost-effective series production

Automatic wire turning machines operate with a high degree of autonomy. For suitable components, setup costs are spread across large quantities, while precision starting material can reduce subsequent machining.

You can also enquire about single parts, samples and smaller production runs. We compare suitable manufacturing processes that achieve the same required quality. For suitable components, wire turning is particularly cost-effective from approximately 10,000 parts.

Which additional features do you need?

Our installed ESCO wire process is designed for turning the outer surface. For bores, milled features and other CNC requirements, we assess machining from bar stock on suitable machines.
